Brazil pursues a policy of the mutuality:
Citizens of a state, in whom Brazilians are visa requiring, must now already request before the departure into their country a Brazilian visa.
Citizens of the USA and France belong to.
Citizens of the Federal Republic of Germany, Switzerland and Austria do not need to enter if them as tourists a visa.
The passport must be valid at least six months.
With the entry to Brazil one receives a stamp with the tourist visa, which is 90 days valid. This visa can be extended once around further 90 days, so that one can remain as a tourist altogether 180 days in the country.

For this extension one must turn to the immigration authority of the federal police. Temporally limited visas are spent at foreigners, who work in Brazil or are on business trips there on the way. Thus a longer residence permit is connected to tourist visas than with that.
